My idea of the perfect vacation

10 weird jobs from which to take a perfect vacation

No Meaning – No Echo

tubing in the sunThat which is broadly accepted as perfect is also known as holy and complete. The vacation you take becometh the perfect vacation.

Let us think upon this from a non-contextual space. Let us think about it from a space that is stripped of meaning and echo.

My vacation cannot be seen directly, You have to look at it from an angle with your eyelids partly closed. This leads to fun. Perfect fun.

My perfect vacation – where we still laugh and direct our gaze at hope. The perfect vacation – when the sun desists its constant scoffing.

This just in. A former Four Seasons resort on Great Exuma Island in the Bahamas became a Sandals property. The five hundred acre resort is now called Sandals Emerald Bay.

Sandals plans include adding a half-acre swimming pool with the largest Jacuzzi in the Bahamas, a swim up pool bar, and a fire-pit seating area on an island surrounded by the pool. Wi-Fi access will be available at nearby cabanas. A second pool bar, Irish pub, and two additional restaurants are also in the works.

This exclusive resort will offer butler service, six tennis courts, Red Lane spa, 18 hold golf course, and a deepwater marina.

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to check it out!

I hope you don’t mind if I discuss the 10 weird jobs in a future post. Sorry to put that in a headline and then not pursue it within the body of the article.

Incomplete post: What is worth writing about?

By Martin Goldstein, February 27, 2010 1:19 am

Someone said that my writing was a waste of time so they must be right. What would be worth writing about?

I write when:

there is something that I think is worth communicating to others
I enjoy the process of writing
it feels like I am getting something off my chest
I feel like there is an audience that appreciates what I am writing about
the act of writing helps me to work out a problem
the act of writing helps me to brainstorm
I am getting paid to write
I am in the habit of writing
I think I have something funny to say
I feel that I have something to teach
as in a blog, I want to experiment with search engine optimization

Incomplete article. This is a process.

Rabbi Emmanuel Rabinovich & Rose Rabbinovich propose a new argument from design

Rabbi Rabinovich and Rose Rabbinovich propose new design argument

This post is accompanied by the brilliant music of Toronto’s Mike Kane:

Disassembled_mix

This post may be difficult to understand but if you allow yourself to be comfortable and relaxed you will easily comprehend it. The story is in my fingertips and your eye and mental energy are huddling down to understand the message. You are already doing a beautiful job. You are in a state of ease, like Mexico after lunch.

The cause of war, thankfully God is funny

The first thing to “get” is the level of satisfaction that you can have from just being with yourself as you watch Duck Soup by the Marx Brothers. The war is on due to a verbal misunderstanding and ego. Thank God it is funny.

A sock lost is a sock gained

The second thing to “get” is that the sock you mysteriously lose in the laundry is not actually a sock lost but rather a sock gained. This may sound odd at first since we are trained to see it as a missing sock, our entire sock collection minus 1 left foot sock or 1 right foot sock. But I am proposing that we are actually gaining one half of a pair of socks and thinking that we are missing its match and that therefore we are in a state of loss. Since we tend to be superstitions about missing socks we may as well entertain the idea that we are mysteriously gaining 1 sock that happens to be missing its mate.

This is not so difficult a concept really but some have responded with bewilderment. So I try and find new ways of explaining it.

A friend of mine, who “got” it right away, suggested a way that this point of view could lead to world peace and the spread of human rights. I think this is doable (perhaps through a facebook group – that always changes the world) but the level of attention and prerequisite knowledge is beyond the scope of this blog post.

Is it enough to say he is handsome?

Let us assume that Rabbi Rabinovich is a handsome man and let us assume that Rose Rabbinovich is enamored of the Rabbi. Is it enough to tell the Rabbi that he is handsome? Is there a chance for Rose to have a relationship with the Rabbi?

Ambivalent Before God / not-God

By Martin Goldstein, January 19, 2010 9:15 am

GOD!

Is it You that I thank for bringing good people and situations into my life?

If so, thank You!

Are You also the one I thank for making conditions difficult sometimes?

If so, thank You!

And are You also the one that created all the forms of suffering knowing full well that people will increase the amount of suffering that gets dished out through natural means thereby making the lives of billions constantly intolerable?

If so, thank You!

What did I just thank God for?

I love you God. I hate you God.

You exist God. You can’t exist, God.

But if you don’t exist who am I going to feel grateful to and who am I going to complain to? Maybe there is a path without God that works better for me. Or maybe I should just go and buy a God Doll at the mall.

What do I mean? Am I just a design?

Viktor Frankl was a holocaust survivor and psychiatrist. He developed the practice of Logotherapy which is a type of psychoanalysis focusing on a will to meaning as opposed to Nietzsche’s and Adler’s “will to power” or Freud’s “will to pleasure.” Frankl warned against “…affluence, hedonism, and materialism…” in the search for meaning.

These are the principles of Logotherapy:

  • Life has meaning under all circumstances, even the most miserable ones.
  • Our main motivation for living is our will to find meaning in life.
  • We have inalienable freedom to find meaning.

We can find meaning in life in three different ways:

  1. by creating a work or doing a deed;
  2. by experiencing something or encountering someone;
  3. by the attitude we take toward unavoidable suffering.

Viktor Frankl was a creator of meaning because he was a survivor of destruction and meaninglessness. He kept himself busy and then he died.

Frankl may have coined the term Sunday Neurosis which is depression caused by an awareness in some people of the emptiness of their lives once the working week has completed.

And now for something completely Monty Python – The Meaning of Life: The Autumn Years
